Dental Implants by Dedicated Dental Group in Parkland, FL

When you have a missing tooth, it is important to replace it as soon as possible in order to preserve existing bone structure and the functionality of your bite. Without proper stimulation to the jawbone from a tooth root, your jawbone beneath the missing tooth will begin to deteriorate.

At Dedicated Dental Group, Dr. Tatyana Nudel, DMD, consults with patients who need to replace a broken or missing tooth in order to determine the best course of action. Together, the patient and Dr. Nudel come to a clear decision as to what is best for the patient’s oral health before moving forward with any treatment.

What are Dental Implants?

Aside from restoring your chewing capability and enhancing your smile, one of the greatest benefits of a dental implant is that it replaces both your missing tooth and the root. A dental implant can be broken down into three basic components:

  • Dental Implant Post – This part of the tooth implant resembles a tiny screw. The dental implant post is made of titanium so it can integrate with your jawbone through a process called osseointegration. For the dental implant procedure, the dental implant post is surgically placed and the patient is allowed time to heal so the implant is stable before the final dental implant crown is attached.
  • Abutment – After the dental implant post has been anchored within the jawbone, a custom abutment is attached to the post. The abutment is a small metal cap that connects the dental implant crown to the dental implant post.
  • Tooth Restoration – The tooth restoration is the dental implant crown that attaches to the post. The restoration is usually made of porcelain and is formed to match the color and shape of your surrounding teeth. Patients that are missing multiple teeth can choose to have an implant-supported dental bridge or dentures instead of multiple dental implant crowns.

How Do You Know If You Are a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

Anyone who has one of the following conditions is a good candidate to receive a dental implant:

  • A missing tooth
  • A severely decayed tooth that cannot be restored
  • A badly broken tooth that cannot be repaired
  • Poorly fitted dentures

What Should You Expect When You Get a Dental Implant?

If you come into our Parkland office to receive a dental implant, you should expect to make several appointments. During the initial visit, Dr. Nudel assesses your situation and devises a treatment plan that will best resolve your problem. Full medical and dental histories are taken to ensure that the patient is healthy enough for the procedure. In some instances, periodontal disease or bone loss may make it necessary for the patient to undergo additional treatments (bone grafts, sinus lifts, tooth extractions) before the dental implant can be placed. If any of these occur, several months of healing must occur prior to the next step of placing the titanium screw.

How Much Time Will I Need to Recuperate after Getting a Dental Implant?

Most patients heal quickly and experience little to no pain after the first few days, and your comfort is always the top priority with any procedure. Over-the-counter medication should be sufficient to handle any discomfort. Many patients go back to work the next day. Although hard, crunchy foods should be avoided for several days or weeks, no dietary restrictions are attached to the dental implant procedure, and once it has completely healed, it will function just like a healthy tooth.

How Much Does a Dental Implant Cost in Parkland?

It’s important to realize that the cost of a dental implant varies, depending on the number of additional procedures that are required (extraction, periodontal treatment, bone graft, or sinus lift), and which or how many teeth need replaced. Unfortunately, most dental insurance plans do not cover this type of procedure. To obtain a specific estimate for your dental implant procedure in Parkland, we recommend requesting a consultation with Dr. Nudel.

How Long Will the Dental Implant Process Take in Your Parkland Dental Office?

The average amount of time needed for a dental implant from start to finish is six months. However, it can take less or more time, depending on scheduling, additional procedures, and your health.
